Can I go alone for my appointment or should I ask someone to accompany me?

You can absolutely go alone for your appointment. In fact, it is often recommended to do so.

When meeting any mental health professional for your concerns, you need to be able to speak openly about everything related to your situation and concerns. Usually, having a third person during a session can cause hindrance to this as one may find the need to filter what they say.

However, if you feel the need to have someone accompany you to your appointment, you can do so as well. The experience of going to your appointment (especially the first one) can be daunting just like any doctor’s appointment, so make sure to take any steps needed to ensure you feel comfortable and safe. There aren’t any rules with respect to this, it is totally up to you.
