The Alternative Story

COVID-19 Listening Circle: L.E.A.N

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused widespread loss of life and greatly increased feelings of distress, grief, isolation, and anxiety in people. L.E.A.N is a community listening circle created with such feelings in mind.

This listening circle welcomes, holds space for, and accepts all emotions and experiences arising as a direct/indirect result of the pandemic. The goal is to provide a safe space where all participants will be able to express themselves fully.

Sessions are held every alternate Thursday at 6 PM, free-of-cost, on Zoom. Each session is facilitated by counselling psychologists on our team.

What Happens in a L.E.A.N Session?

  • Ground rules: Each listening circle will start with a review of some basic ground rules.
  • Feelings check: The facilitators of the session will check-in with how everyone’s feeling before beginning.
  • Listening circle: Every participant will take turns (if and when they feel comfortable) to talk about their feelings and experiences. They will listen, acknowledge, and respect what the other participants have to say, and can also respond if they wish to do so.
  • Summary and Grounding: At the end of the circle, facilitators will summarise the happenings of that session and walk the participants through a few grounding exercises.
